On 7 August 2026, Joseph Greer, aged 40, of Bedford Road, Aberdeen, was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years after pleading guilty to the murder of his partner, 54-year-old Samantha Lee.
The court heard details regarding a Police Scotland investigation into an incident that occurred in early January 2026 at Greer’s bedsit address on Bedford Road. Prosecutors outlined how Greer launched a sustained and violent attack on Ms Lee, using a claw hammer or similar implement to inflict catastrophic blunt force head injuries while she lay defenceless on the floor.
At the time of the murder, Greer was wearing an electronic monitoring tag and was subject to court bail conditions prohibiting him from approaching or contacting Ms Lee, following a previous violent incident in October 2025.
On 4 January 2026, a visitor to Greer’s flat was informed that Ms Lee was deceased in the kitchen, prompting emergency services to attend.
Greer subsequently entered a guilty plea to the charge of murder at the High Court in Glasgow in June 2026.
