On 6 August 2026, Alvin Gitahi, aged 44, of Uxbridge Road, Ealing, was found guilty at Southwark Crown Court of the murder of his partner, 35-year-old Vivienne Baraka.
The court heard details regarding a Metropolitan Police investigation initiated on 26 March 2024, when emergency services were called to a property in Riverside Close, Ealing. Officers and paramedics located Ms Baraka suffering from severe injuries, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death was compression to the neck.
Detectives arrested Gitahi at the scene and launched a comprehensive murder inquiry. Forensic analysis of electronic devices seized from the address uncovered extensive messaging history between Gitahi and the victim, establishing an ongoing pattern of coercive and physically abusive behaviour.
Phone records further demonstrated that shortly before her death, Ms Baraka contacted her mother to request emergency assistance, stating that Gitahi was subjecting her to repeated physical violence. Neighbours also provided witness statements confirming audible distress from the address prior to police arrival.
Gitahi was formally charged with murder in October 2025 following the conclusion of police enquiries.
