In 2022, Lewis Grant, then aged 28, of Stirling, was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh to eleven and a half years in prison with an extended licence period of three years after being convicted of rape and various sexual offences.
The court heard details regarding a Police Scotland investigation launched by the Forth Valley Public Protection Unit into historical offences committed across the country. Prosecutors outlined how Grant carried out a series of serious crimes, including rape, sexual assault, and violent assault, between April 2011 and December 2019. The offences took place in Dumfries, Musselburgh, and the Stirling area.
Following extensive police enquiries, Grant was brought to trial and convicted of the offences at the High Court in Stirling on Thursday 22 September 2022.
The presiding judge at the High Court in Edinburgh handed Grant an extended sentence, ordering that he serve eleven and a half years in custody followed by three years on extended licence upon his release.
In a statement following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Forbes Wilson highlighted Grant as a dangerous individual, commending the immense bravery of the victims who came forward to give evidence and ensure he faced justice.
In addition to the extended custodial sentence, the court ordered that Grant be placed on the sex offenders’ register, with case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
