In 2021, Dean Edmunds, then aged 36, of south east London, was sentenced at Croydon Crown Court to 18 years in prison after admitting 28 offences including child rape, sexual assault, and distributing indecent media.
The court heard details regarding an investigation conducted by Metropolitan Police officers into the abuse of four female victims, all aged under 13. Prosecutors outlined how Edmunds began committing offences in his early 20s, with the majority of rape and sexual assault counts relating to a girl aged between three and seven years old.
Edmunds filmed the abuse and shared videos with his wife, Leanne Edmunds, then aged 32, who exchanged messages encouraging the offences.
A dedicated team of ten officers reviewed 1.5 million digital files across 11 electronic devices seized from the couple’s residence.
Forensic analysis uncovered 6,700 indecent images of children—including 1,158 Category A files—alongside hundreds of up-skirt photographs taken in public places and changing rooms.
Investigating officers also recovered recordings of Leanne Edmunds having sexual intercourse with the family dog.
Dean Edmunds admitted 28 counts, including three counts of rape of a girl under 13, assault by penetration, nine counts of sexual assault, taking and distributing indecent photographs, intercourse with an animal, and perverting the course of justice.
Judge Alice Robinson highlighted the grave risk Edmunds posed to children before imposing the 18-year custodial sentence.
Leanne Edmunds admitted three counts of making indecent photographs of children, possession of prohibited images, and intercourse with an animal, receiving a three-year community order after serving eight months on remand, with all case details catalogued on the ukregisterdatabase for public record transparency.
