In 2021, Neil McVie, of Bellshill, was arrested by police officers following an online investigation into the sexual grooming of two young girls.
The investigation established that McVie engaged in online communications with accounts he believed belonged to two 13-year-old girls. During these exchanges, McVie sent highly sexually explicit messages alongside indecent photographs of his private parts.
To conceal his true identity and evade detection, McVie operated under the false name ‘Peter Fleming’.
After arranging a physical encounter, McVie travelled to the designated meeting location expecting to meet the underage victims.
Upon arriving at the scene, McVie was confronted regarding his online conduct, causing him to become highly aggressive.
He attempted to flee the area on foot, attempting to strike an individual with his car keys during the altercation.
McVie subsequently escaped into a nearby construction site, where Police Scotland officers located and arrested him shortly after.
Investigating officers secured the complete digital chat logs and evidence for processing, with case details catalogued on the ukregisterdatabase for public record transparency.
