In 2021, Stephen Wakeley, a then-68-year-old man from Garsington, was jailed for 10 months after pleading guilty to six counts of making thousands of indecent images of children, including material depicting the rape of young children.
Stephen Wakeley, of Alpha Avenue, Garsington, appeared at Oxford Crown Court, where he admitted six counts of making indecent images of children. The court heard that police first raided Wakeley’s caravan near Garsington in 2018, seizing devices containing nearly 7,000 indecent images of children, including 995 Category A images. Despite being released under investigation, Wakeley purchased a new laptop within two months and continued downloading child abuse material, accumulating a further 292 images. When questioned, Wakeley claimed he sent the images to women on dating websites as “revenge” or to test their commitment.
Judge Nigel Daly sentenced Wakeley to 10 months in prison, refusing to suspend the sentence due to his continued offending while under police investigation. The sentencing was briefly interrupted when Wakeley suffered breathing difficulties in the dock, requiring medical assistance before the court resumed.
Following his convictions for child sexual abuse material, Wakeley was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
He also remains subject to statutory public protection notification requirements and long-term risk management protocols by law enforcement upon any eventual release from custody.
