In 2021, Ali Amiri, a then 33-year-old man from Crumpsall, was jailed after exposing himself to a child during a live video broadcast on a mobile application.
Ali Amiri, of Eadington Street, Crumpsall, was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court to 16 months in prison after pleading guilty to engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 13, making an indecent photograph, and distributing an indecent photograph. The court heard that in May 2020, Amiri used the live-streaming video application OKLive to communicate with children online. During a call, Amiri instructed a young girl to expose herself before exposing himself and performing an indecent act while other users watched the stream.
Members of an online child protection group, Cobra UK, observed the broadcast and alerted law enforcement. Greater Manchester Police executed a search warrant at his address and seized two mobile phones containing Category B and Category C indecent images of children. Judge Mary Prior QC rejected claims of naivety, noting that the psychological distress inflicted on the child victim via video was significant and demonstrated a clear sexual interest in children before handing down the 16-month custodial term.
In addition to his 16-month prison sentence, Amiri was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
He was also made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to ensure strict ongoing monitoring of his internet usage and digital communications following his release.
