In 2021, Christopher Wright, a then 29-year-old repeat sex offender, was jailed for 16 years following a historic public protection investigation into child sexual abuse.
Christopher Wright, formerly of Clay Cross, Chesterfield, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court to 16 years in prison after being convicted of five counts of raping a child under the age of 13. The court heard that Wright committed the systematic offences between 10 and 15 years prior at residential addresses across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, beginning his offending when he was a child himself. The abuse came to light in summer 2017 when one of the young victims came forward to report the historic offences to Nottinghamshire Police.
Specialist officers conducted an extensive inquiry and interviewed multiple witnesses. Although Wright initially denied all allegations, he later admitted to one count of child rape regarding his first victim before a jury subsequently convicted him of four additional counts of child rape involving a second victim. The judge noted the severe, calculating nature of his predatory behaviour over a multi-year period before handing down the 16-year custodial sentence.
In addition to his 16-year prison term, Wright was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
He was also made subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to ensure strict ongoing monitoring of his movements and tightly restrict his future activities upon release from custody.
