In 2021, Alan Carr, a then Nissan factory worker from Cramlington, was handed a suspended sentence after police uncovered over 50,000 illicit images on his computer.
Alan Carr, of Cramlington, Northumberland, was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court to 12 months in prison suspended for two years after pleading guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children. The court heard that law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at his home address in November 2019, during which Carr immediately admitted to his offence. Subsequent forensic examination uncovered 22 Category A, 155 Category B, and 52,634 Category C images stored on his hard drive, featuring children aged between six and 12.
Carr had a previous conviction for 15 counts of taking indecent images dating back to 2006. Judge Penny Moreland admonished Carr for his actions, highlighting the real harm inflicted on the children depicted in the media. Taking into account his employment status and personal support network, the judge determined that there was a realistic prospect of rehabilitation and ordered him to complete 200 hours of unpaid work alongside a rehabilitation activity requirement.
In addition to his suspended prison sentence, Carr was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
He was also made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to ensure strict ongoing monitoring of his digital devices and internet access.
