In 2021, Shahmaan Ahmed, a then 29-year-old man from London, was jailed following an operation by Thames Valley Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team into online grooming and planned child abuse.
Shahmaan Ahmed, of Roman Road, London, was sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty by a jury of four child sex offences, including travelling to meet a child following grooming. The court heard that Ahmed travelled from London to Reading in August 2020, believing he was meeting two real children, aged just three and eight years old.
Investigating officers arrested Ahmed at the location, where he was found carrying various sexual items along with sweets intended as gifts for the children. During his trial, Ahmed attempted to claim that he was conducting an independent effort to expose online exploitation networks. Still, the jury unanimously rejected his defence after being presented with clear evidence of his intent. Detectives highlighted the dangerous and calculated nature of his actions, noting that he fully expected to commit severe abuse against extremely young victims.
In addition to his eight-year custodial sentence, Ahmed was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to ensure strict monitoring of his internet usage and future activities upon release.
