In 2021, Maurice Clayton, a then 60-year-old man from Biggin Hill, was jailed following a Kent Police undercover sting operation targeting online child exploitation.
Maurice Clayton, of Oakland Lane, Biggin Hill, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court to two years in prison after pleading guilty to five child sex offences, including arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence and distributing prohibited digital media. The court heard that Clayton, who worked as an ambulance service paramedic for 36 years, used an online profile under the username “Mole999” to communicate with an undercover officer posing as a mother of a 10-year-old girl. During these digital exchanges, Clayton expressed a clear intent to commit serious sexual offences against the fictional child and shared illicit images across social media platforms.
Believing he was meeting the mother to gain access to the child, Clayton travelled 30 miles to a supermarket car park in Rochester in September 2020. Upon his arrival at the agreed location, undercover Kent Police officers intervened and placed him under arrest, discovering illicit items hidden inside his motorcycle bag during a search. Sentencing judge Charles Gratwicke condemned his calculated actions, noting that children are entitled to protection from predatory individuals and that his behaviour provoked complete revulsion.
In addition to his custodial sentence, Clayton was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
He was also made subject to strict court-ordered restrictions, including a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), designed to monitor his online activities and manage public safety risks following his eventual release.
