In 2026, the Offender Register reported that Mark Whitton, a Moray sex offender, had been discovered with over 40,000 indecent images of children as young as one year old and 302 hours of child sexual abuse videos.
When the police executed a warrant at his residence in Elgin on October 2, 2025, Mark Whitton told them, “Everything is over for me.”
The 56-year-old paedophile, who possessed material featuring infants as young as one year old, disclosed to investigators that he had three hard drives containing images of children.
One laptop and three hard drives were confiscated from his residence, according to the Inverness Sheriff Court.
Fiscal depute Emily Hood informed Sheriff Ian Cruickshank that the laptop contained 152 inaccessible images, as well as AI-generated images. These were males and females between the ages of one and fourteen.
The images depicted children participating in sexual activities with adults and other children.
Additionally, some videos depicted “women engaging in sexual activity with animals, primarily dogs.”
Additionally, there are an additional 142 videos of extreme pornography available, which once again depict adults engaging in sexual activity with animals.
Whitton possessed a total of 41,077 images of child sex abuse and 23,16 recordings.
The videos’ total duration exceeded 302 hours, equivalent to more than 12 days.
He possessed a total of 418 images of extreme pornography and 985 videos, which accumulated to a run time of over 511 hours, which is equivalent to over 21 days.
Whitton, who was previously residing on Land Street in Elgin, entered a guilty plea to the act of capturing or allowing the production of indecent images of children.
Additionally, he acknowledged that he possessed indecent images of children. The offences occurred over nearly five years, specifically from November 21, 2019, to October 2, 2025.
He also admitted to possessing extreme pornographic images that realistically and explicitly depict bestiality.
Sheriff Cruickshank remanded Whitton in custody and postponed sentencing until August 18 to allow completion of background reports.
