In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Anas Almarjeh, then 27, of Glasgow, was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by the High Court in Glasgow. Almarjeh, a barber, was jailed after being convicted of “reprehensible” crimes involving the rape of two women and the “sinister” distribution of footage depicting his victims.
The investigation established that Almarjeh attacked his first victim in late 2019 while she was asleep at a house in Barrhead, Renfrewshire. During this “abhorrent” incident, he recorded a sexual image of the woman and later showed it to another man. His “persistent” predatory behaviour continued between 2019 and 2022, during which he repeatedly raped and abused a second victim in Glasgow’s southside and Barrhead.
Abusive Behaviour and Digital Humiliation
Police Scotland uncovered a pattern of “systematic” coercive control and domestic abuse against the second victim. Almarjeh “calculatingly” controlled her finances, diet, movements, and social contacts, often locking her out of her home and seizing her bank cards. The court reported that he went as far as filming the woman in a state of extreme distress and posting the footage on social media to humiliate her.
Judge Lady Hood emphasised that Almarjeh had shown no responsibility or insight into the “destructive impact” of his actions. Despite his claims at trial that he was the victim of “false allegations,” the jury found him guilty of two counts of rape and one of abusive behaviour. The court noted that his “appalling” conduct had permanently blighted the health and lives of both survivors.
Sentence and Statutory Requirements
For his crimes in Glasgow and Barrhead, Renfrewshire, Anas Almarjeh was handed:
- Custodial Sentence: 10 years in immediate custody.
- Sex Offenders Register: Notification requirements were imposed for life.
- Non-Harassment Orders: Indefinite orders were issued, banning any contact with either victim.
Monitoring and Public Protection
Almarjeh is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Police Scotland. His history of “vicious” sexual violence and the digital exploitation of his victims means his status remains under “critical” scrutiny.
As a lifetime member of the Sex Offenders Register, Almarjeh must comply with strict notification requirements regarding his address and movements in Glasgow. Authorities state that his 10-year sentence reflects the “gravity” of his predatory and controlling behaviour. Any breach of his registration conditions or the indefinite non-harassment orders following his eventual release will result in his immediate return to the High Court.
