The Offender Database has reported that Aija Cernevica, 40, originally of Latvia but residing in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, was jailed for three years following a horrific and relentless attack on her own dog. Cernevica appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, where she pleaded guilty to four charges, including causing a dog unnecessary suffering, possession of knives, and threatening behaviour.

The investigation by Police Scotland uncovered that on May 16, Cernevica launched a sickening assault on a defenceless pup in Orr’s Trust Public Park, Beith, Ayrshire. In broad daylight and in full view of playing children, she brutally kicked, bit, and stamped on the animal before swinging it over a barbed-wire fence.

Vile Cruelty and Dishonest Accusations
The court reported that two 11-year-old children witnessed the warped woman straddle the pup and strangle it until it died. In a callous and dishonest attempt to evade justice, Cernevica called the police herself, claiming that children in the park had killed the dog. When officers arrived, they found her heavily intoxicated and wearing blood-soaked clothing.

After the child witnesses exposed her lies, Cernevica managed to escape police custody before being apprehended later that evening. Upon her second arrest, officers discovered she was carrying an assortment of five kitchen knives.

Abusive Conduct and Sentencing
Earlier that day, Cernevica had been involved in a disturbance at her home in Kilbirnie, where she shouted vile abuse at neighbours—including insults directed at a mother and her baby—before smashing her own window and fleeing with her dogs. Following her arrest, she continued her abusive behaviour, kicking a police van and shouting sickening threats at officers, stating that their daughters were “getting raped and stabbed.”

Sheriff emphasised the gravity of her crimes, noting the trauma caused to the children who witnessed the killing. For her serious and evil actions, Aija Cernevica was:

  • Sentenced to three years in prison.
  • Banned from owning or keeping animals for life.
  • Convicted of possession of offensive weapons and threatening and abusive behaviour.

Monitoring and Public Safety
The authorities will monitor Cernevica upon her release. Her history of extreme violence toward a defenceless animal and her possession of multiple knives prove she is a danger to the public. Any attempt to dishonestly acquire an animal or repeat her threatening behaviour in Beith, Kilbirnie, or the wider Ayrshire area will result in her immediate return to custody.
