In 2026, the Offender Database reported that David Charles Greenwood, then 65, of Penrith, Cumbria, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court for the possession of vile and disturbing indecent images of children. David Greenwood was targeted by police following serious concerns regarding his online interactions, which led to a raid on his family home in Penrith, Cumbria. During a forensic examination of his mobile phone, officers discovered 35 illegal images, including the most serious and violent Category A material.
The court heard that David Charles Greenwood initially attempted to deceive investigators by claiming no illegal material would be found on his device. However, during a second interview with Cumbria Constabulary, he provided “no comment” responses to all questioning. Forensic analysis confirmed the presence of seven Category A images—the most horrendous classification—alongside seven Category B images and 21 Category C files. Despite the serious nature of the offences, it was noted that no illegal material was found on a separate computer examined by police.
Judge Michael Fanning sentenced David Greenwood to ten months in prison, but suspended the term for one year. The judge observed that Greenwood, who had no previous convictions, had already begun addressing his predatory thoughts and attitudes by working with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation. The judge warned that while his wife had “unusually” stood by him, the fact that he committed these sickening crimes within the family home made the situation “troubling.” Greenwood must now complete 15 days of rehabilitation activities and 100 hours of unpaid work.
As a result of his convictions for these vile sexual offences, David Charles Greenwood—who has since moved to Avenham Lane, Preston, Lancashire—was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for ten years. He was also made subject to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and must pay a £187 victim surcharge. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Cumbria Constabulary and Lancashire Constabulary, remaining under supervision for the duration of his order. Any breach of his registration requirements in Preston, Penrith, or elsewhere will result in the immediate activation of his jail sentence.
