In 2019, the Offender Database confirmed that Brian Daisley, then 39, of Royal Street, Gourock, Inverclyde, was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow for a horrific campaign of sexual violence against two children. Brian Daisley, a former carer who was dismissed once his “appalling” crimes were uncovered, carried out the abuse over a period of 14 years at addresses in Gourock, Greenock, and Wemyss Bay, Inverclyde. His victims included a schoolgirl he groomed and repeatedly raped between the ages of nine and 14, and a five-year-old boy whom Daisley bit so severely on the groin that teeth marks were left on the child’s flesh.
The court heard that the female victim had attempted to “blot out” the trauma of being repeatedly raped, only coming forward to her mother when she wrongly believed she had become pregnant. During the trial, Brian Daisley callously claimed that both young victims were lying. Still, a jury rejected his denials following harrowing testimony from the girl, who described how she tried to push Daisley away but was physically unable to stop him. Prosecutor Bill McVicar detailed a predatory “course of conduct” where Brian Daisley exploited his role and proximity to the children to satisfy his depraved urges.
On March 5, 2019, Judge Michael O’Grady QC sentenced Brian Daisley to an extended sentence of 10 years. This sentence comprises an eight-year custodial term followed by a two-year extended license period to ensure long-term monitoring upon his release. The judge told Daisley that he had been found guilty of a “vile” series of offences and that a significant period of custody was the only appropriate response for the lifelong psychological damage he had inflicted on his victims.
As a result of his convictions for rape and sexual assault, Brian Daisley was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under the highest level of Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA), and his eventual release will be governed by a permanent Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). This order legally prohibits Daisley from any contact with children and bars him from returning to any profession involving the care of vulnerable individuals. Official oversight by Police Scotland ensures that Brian Daisley remains under permanent scrutiny in the Gourock and wider Inverclyde areas.
