In January 2026, the Offender Database reported that Ciaran Bright, 30, of Pennsylvania, Pentwyn, Cardiff, was sentenced at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court for possessing and making hundreds of indecent images of children. Bright, a prominent figure in Welsh youth sports, utilised his professional background as a football academy director to mask a “disturbing” obsession with child sexual abuse material.

The court heard that South Wales Police launched an investigation after receiving a referral from the social media platform Kik, which identified an account uploading images of children being sexually abused. On July 25, 2024, officers visited Bright’s home and seized his mobile phone. Forensic analysis uncovered a library of illegal content across all legal categories, including Category A—the most extreme classification depicting the rape and torture of children—as well as Category B and C files. Investigators also found a history of predatory search terms on his browsers, including “young gymnast,” “girl cheerleaders,” and “children on leashes.”

Bright occupied a significant position of trust within the sporting community. On his professional profiles, he identified himself as a director of SportsXtra and the co-owner of Academy 3, an independent football academy operating in Cardiff and Swansea. He claimed to impact over 200 academy players each week and touted professional links to Cardiff City FC and Swansea City FC. The prosecution noted that his professional proximity to children made his private digital activities particularly alarming.

During the sentencing hearing on January 2, 2026, Bright was handed a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. The court ordered him to complete 200 hours of unpaid community service and a 14-day rehabilitation program. While he avoided immediate custody, the judge emphasised the severe breach of public trust inherent in his actions, given his role as a mentor to young athletes.

As a result of his convictions for making indecent images of children, Ciaran Bright has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years. He is managed under the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in Cardiff. The court also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for 10 years, which includes strict, legally enforceable bans on his work with children and monitoring of his internet-enabled devices. He has been permanently barred from youth coaching, and his name has been added to the DBS Barred List.
