In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Alexander Davies, then 26, of Magennis Close, Gosport, was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court. Davies, who begged a judge for “one last chance” to remain free, was jailed for 16 months after being caught with more than 8,000 indecent images and videos of children, including graphic footage of an infant.
The court heard that police initially raided Davies’ home and discovered two mobile phones containing illegal material, one of which he had attempted to hide under his bed. In an attempt to deflect blame, Davies initially suggested that he had been “set up” by his father. Although police returned a third phone to him because it was initially clean, Davies immediately used it to resume his criminal activity, downloading and distributing more images while on bail.
A forensic analysis of the devices revealed a massive collection: 507 Category A images (the most severe), 322 Category B, and 7,945 Category C. Prosecutors noted that Davies had actively swapped messages with other offenders, demonstrating a “wilfulness” to trade material. Recorder Michael Bowes QC highlighted the depravity of the collection, noting that one image depicted a graphic assault on a baby less than one year old. In contrast, others showed children in clear pain and distress.
During the videolink hearing, Davies read a letter expressing remorse and claiming that his time in remand had taught him that “freedom is priceless.” However, the judge rejected his plea for mercy, citing his continued offending after his first arrest and a significant “lack of maturity.” Davies, who had no previous convictions, admitted to two counts of distributing child abuse images, 12 possession charges, and one charge of possessing extreme pornography.
In 2019, Alexander Davies was sentenced to 16 months in prison. He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for the same period, which strictly restricts and monitors his internet usage. The court also ordered the destruction of all three mobile phones used in the commission of his crimes.
