In 2025, the Offender Database reported that Brian Stobie, then 70, of Edinburgh, was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh for serious sexual offences against children.

Brian Stobie was sentenced to 12 years and nine months in prison on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. He had been convicted at the same court on Wednesday, December 3, and also pleaded guilty to indecent communication offences. The court heard that Brian Stobie’s actions took place over several years, during which he deliberately exploited and caused “immeasurable harm” to his young victims.

Detective Inspector Steph Garnett of Police Scotland stated that Brian Stobie’s behaviour was “abhorrent in every sense” and reaffirmed the force’s commitment to bringing such offenders to justice. She praised the courage of the victims for coming forward, noting that there is no time limit to reporting such crimes in Scotland.

In addition to his custodial sentence, Brian Stobie will be subject to lifelong sex offender notification requirements. He was also made subject to strict post-release conditions to ensure public protection and to monitor his behaviour following his eventual release from prison.
