In 2016, the Offender Database reported that Julie Gill was incarcerated for 12 months after she deserted a baby in an overturned pram in a park in Blackpool.

Julie Gill, aged 44 at the time, was tasked with supervising the infant when she engaged in a drinking spree at the resort and neglected the child.

A young child, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, was discovered face down in the mud, secured in her pram, by a guy walking his dog in Watson Road Park at approximately 7:30 AM on July 24.

She lacked a coat, shoes or blanket, and had a soiled diaper along with dirt and abrasions on her nose and face.

Judge Robert Altham stated, “She could have perished.”

She persisted in consuming lager and vodka at the pub before proceeding to the Duple Club on Bond Street.

The women departed the club about midnight, and Julie Gill proceeded, manoeuvring the baby in the pram.

However, when she awakened a neighbour at 4 AM, exclaiming that she had misplaced her keys, the infant was no longer in her possession.

The following morning, a dog walker observed the pram inverted in Watson Road Park.

Julie Gill’s bag and tablet were strewn about, but upon attempting to overturn the pram, the man found it cumbersome and realised the small child was asleep beneath it.

Preston Crown Court was informed that Julie Gill had consumed vodka at her residence in Lindale Gardens, South Shore.

Judge Altham said: “She had been alone, abandoned in an upturned pram with her face in the dirt.

“A dog or a fox could have attacked her, or she could have been abducted.

“She could have found it because of the position she was in, difficulty breathing.

“She could have died.”

Police tracked Julie Gill down to her neighbour’s house using the contents of her bag, which was found with the buggy.

Julie Gill told officers she thought she had been attacked and had no recollection after leaving the club.

She said the child was being looked after by another woman.

Judge Altham said: “You that night chose to prioritise your desire to drink on a night out over the need of the child to be protected from serious harm, or worse.”

“Though it was summer, I understand she wasn’t wearing any shoes or a coat.

She will have been cold.

She will have been frightened when she was alone in the dark, abandoned by the person who was supposed to be looking after her.

“She will have felt considerable discomfort having been suspended by the straps in her pram, and she will have felt pain as a result of sitting in a soiled nappy for a considerable time.”
