In 2022, Ross Grant, the Trowbridge Rapist, who evaded capture for five months following an assault on a lady in her bedroom has received a six-year prison sentence.
Ross Grant, 48, with no permanent address in Trowbridge, was convicted of rape by jurors at Swindon Crown Court.
On 10 September 2021, a woman in her forties awoke in the night to discover Ross Grant seated naked at the foot of her bed.
Ross Grant restrained her, forcibly removed a handful of her hair, and then assaulted her sexually.
The victim resisted and forced Ross Grant to the ground before exiting the residence and contacting the authorities.
Ross Grant subsequently evaded capture, traversing the nation, including the Avon and Somerset region to Oxfordshire, where he was ultimately apprehended.
Ross Grant received his punishment on Wednesday.
Detective Constable Ash Burton stated: “Ross Grant perpetrated a heinous assault on a woman within her residence – a place where she ought to have felt secure.”
His acts were utterly reprehensible, and I am certain they will have a lasting effect on his victim.
By entering a plea of not guilty, Ross Grant subjected his victim to a harrowing judicial process, compelling her to recount the traumatic experience before a jury.
I like to applaud Jessica for her courage in reporting the crime to the police and for her willingness to testify in court, ensuring her assailant was incarcerated.
“I trust this conveys a resolute message to victims of sexual assault that we will exert every effort to assist them and ensure that offenders are prosecuted.”
