The jury was informed that the victim had attended a family dinner to commemorate a birthday on the evening of Friday, 28 January 2022, before proceeding to Level Nightclub in Nelson Square, Bolton, with pals.

The woman, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, said in court behind screens that she recalled consuming beer and dancing with her pals before her memory became obscured. She subsequently awoke in a vehicle to discover Basil Alothman on her, perpetrating a grave sexual assault.
