In 2022, Darrel Rose, the Croydon Rapist, was found guilty of attacking two other women and was sentenced on Monday, December 5, 2022, to a minimum of 18 years’ imprisonment.

Darrel Rose, 36, from New Addington in Croydon, is presently four years into a 17-year prison sentence for the rape of another woman.

Darrel Rose received a sentence on Monday following a three-week trial in May, during which he was convicted of nine charges. The trial ensued after a five-year police investigation.

He was convicted of seven charges of rape: three counts involving victim one and four counts involving victim two. Victim one was convicted of one count of assault by penetration and of compelling an individual to participate in sexual behaviour without consent.

Darrel Rose declined to exit his detention cell; yet, his sentencing occurred in his absence, resulting in a life imprisonment sentence with a minimum of 18 years.

Victim one was brutally sexually attacked by Rose at a location in Sydenham, Lewisham, between December 1, 2010, and February 28, 2011. In July 2011, she was raped by Darrel Rose at a location near Luton. She first reported the assault but retracted her accusation due to fear of Darrel Rose. She reported her assault in Luton in November 2017, and an officer assisted her in securing justice against Darrel Rose.

The second victim, in her twenties, was subjected to rape at a location outside London on several occasions between December 1, 2015, and May 30, 2016. She documented the assaults in July 2017.

Detective Sergeant Laura Thomas of the Metropolitan Police’s South Area Public Protection Unit stated: “Darrel Rose subjected both victims to derogatory and degrading treatment.” He was both emotionally and physically abusive, and this sentence encapsulates the terror he inflicted upon his victims.

Both victims have exhibited remarkable bravery and fortitude in confronting Darrel Rose and ensuring he is held accountable for his acts. I commend the fortitude and dedication they have demonstrated throughout this matter.
