Simon Jones, the Rhuddlan Paedophile, who described police inspections on his phone as “intrusive”, was cautioned by a judge today that his online actions are “transparent”.
Simon Jones was discovered in possession of obscene photos of minors and was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order last year.
However, a judge was informed today that he violated that injunction on three occasions. Mould Crown Court was said that a police officer conducted a regular inspection of Simon Jones on January 30 of this year. Prosecutor Laura Knightly stated that he violated his Sexual Harm Prevention Order by establishing a Snapchat account and enabling “Disappearing Messages” on WhatsApp.
Amy Edwards, in defence, stated that Simon Jones, residing on Howell Avenue in Rhuddlan, claimed he had not attempted to conceal his activities. Although not an excuse, Jones had been “profoundly embarrassed” by his prior conviction.
He was bound by the stipulations of the SHPO and sex offender notification obligations. Ms Edwards stated that the violations were “unrelated” to photographs of minors, applications, or chatrooms associated with his original crimes, for which he was subjected to the SHPO.
Simon Jones’ mental health has been “critical,” characterised by acute anxiety and depression. He possesses a young family and experienced the loss of his mother three months prior.
Judge Her Honour Nicola Jones stated that the defendant was discovered in possession of illicit photos of children classified as categories A, B, and C between November 17, 2023, and June 11 of the previous year.
Simon Jones received a suspended prison sentence and was placed under the Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). Between October 28 of the previous year and January 1 of the current year, he violated the order three times after enabling WhatsApp’s “auto delete” messages feature on his phone.
The judge stated that Jones claimed the police “intruded” upon his life. However, she stated following his initial conviction, “your online existence becomes transparent.”
She imposed a 12-month jail sentence on Simon Jones for each violation, with two sentences served concurrently.
