A convicted Ellesmere Paedophile sex offender, Peter Smith, from Maidstone has been incarcerated once more for the creation and possession of obscene pictures of minors.

Peter Smith, previously of Ellesmere in Shropshire, attempted to evade culpability for the offences by asserting that the gadgets confiscated for examination were pre-owned and insinuated that prior owners or guests in his residence were the actual perpetrators.

In December 2021, the 74-year-old, who was under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) due to a prior conviction for analogous offences, utilised a tablet to look for and post sexually explicit remarks regarding an indecent image of a child.

The gadget was under surveillance as part of the continuing SHPO, and the illicit activity was reported to specialised officers.

Peter Smith was apprehended, and a search of his premises resulted in the confiscation of a mobile phone and two tablet devices.

He admitted guilt for violating the SHPO by possessing internet-connected gadgets without informing the authorities, but he rejected culpability for charges concerning the indecent photographs.

After an intricate investigation and protracted trial, Peter Smith was found guilty at Maidstone Crown Court and sentenced to two years’ incarceration on Monday, 8 September 2025.
