A 33-year-old Nigerian Gloucester Rapist, Michael Ogundipe, convicted of raping and sexually assaulting a woman has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Michael Ogundipe, residing on Tuffley Lane in Gloucester, refuted the charges; nonetheless, after a trial in May, a jury convicted him of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and assault by penetration.
In 2022, the court was informed that Michael Ogundipe encountered the victim at her workplace, where he solicited her company for a drink during their initial meeting.
She consented and scheduled a meeting with him after work the following day, informing him via text in advance that she was merely becoming acquainted with him.
The subsequent evening, Michael Ogundipe collected the woman in his vehicle, and they proceeded to a pub. During the night, Michael Ogundipe began to sexualise the conversation, causing her discomfort.
Michael Ogundipe thereafter proposed to transport them to an alternative site to extend their nighttime activities. En route, he paused at his residence, stating he required an item from within.
After the victim utilised the lavatory, Michael Ogundipe perpetrated sexual assault and rape against her.
He thereafter transported her to a location in Cheltenham.
While driving, Michael Ogundipe persistently attempted to touch the victim, who constantly urged him to desist.
Michael Ogundipe was halted by Gloucestershire Police officers conducting a routine patrol due to his driving behaviour. While the vehicle was halted at the roadside, the victim seized the chance to exit her automobile, initially informing cops that she wished to visit a neighbouring family residence and did not desire to confront the incident that had transpired. She subsequently departed.
Observing her anguish, an officer approached the woman, who then revealed that Michael Ogundipe had assaulted her sexually.
Michael Ogundipe was apprehended on allegations of rape and detained, where he was later charged with two charges of sexual assault, assault by penetration, and rape.
The court was informed that Michael Ogundipe refuted the allegation of rape, asserting that the victim had instigated sexual activity and had given her complete consent to engage in sexual intercourse with him.
The jury rejected his account of events and adjudicated him guilty.
In mitigation, the court acknowledged that Michael Ogundipe had a prior commendable character. His Honour Judge Lowe considered the positive character references before to sentencing him at Gloucester Crown Court on Monday, July 21.
Nigerian-born Michael Ogundipe, who arrived in the UK for studies in 2021, will serve a five-year prison sentence and face deportation due to his commission of a serious felony.
