The Hebburn Paedophile, Barry Houston, aged 63, frequently sexually assaulted a school-aged kid at a location in South Tyneside during the victim’s adolescence.
After enduring the repercussions of Houston’s offences for the majority of his life, the victim disclosed the assaults to law enforcement in 2023, subsequent to an unexpected public confrontation with his assailant.
Following a three-day trial at Newcastle Crown Court in April, Barry Houston, residing on Tennant Street, Hebburn, was convicted of six offences.
The charges consisted of four counts of indecent assault on a kid under 14 and two counts of buggery of a boy under 16, occurring prior to the enactment of the Sexual charges Act in 2003.
On Monday, July 7, he returned to the same court where he had been incarcerated for six years and six months. Barry Houston will additionally serve an additional year on an extended licence upon his release from prison.
Barry Houston will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and has been issued a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Speaking after the conclusion of the trial, the victim shared these words: “When Barry was found guilty, I felt relief that was all over.
“I was so pleased the jury believed me and that I had a chance to be heard.
“I was so emotional, this has been with me and affected me for a very long time.
“After Barry abused me, I remember finding it hard to trust people. I knew it wasn’t right what he did to me, but I was just too scared.
“I am glad that I have finally got justice after more than four decades and for all the difficulties, I am glad I went through it.”
