William Lynas, then aged 84, of Moons Green, Spalding, Lincolnshire, was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment (216 months) at Lincoln Crown Court on Thursday, 3 September 2026, after being found guilty of 13 sexual offences committed against two children.
The conviction follows a complex inquiry conducted by Lincolnshire Police’s Protecting Vulnerable Persons unit into abuse that occurred over a 40-year timeframe.
The court heard that Lynas repeatedly targeted two victims between the 1980s and 2023 in the Spalding area, with both individuals being young children at the times the assaults occurred.
Lynas denied all allegations, but a jury convicted him on all 13 indictments.
Detective Constable Victoria Oaks revealed that Lynas attempted to mislead the jury during his trial by hobbling into court with a walking stick to display frailty, but jurors exposed his deception after observing him walking normally outside the court building.

Detective Constable Oaks commended the courage of the victims for coming forward to reveal the abuse and ensure Lynas was held accountable for his crimes.
The presiding judge sentenced Lynas to an 18-year custodial term, imposed indefinite restraining orders protecting both victims, and ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing sexual offences, Lynas is required to serve two-thirds (144 months / 12 years) of his 216-month sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible for statutory release on licence. His projected release date falls in September 2038, whereupon he will remain subject to licence conditions and statutory community supervision until the expiration of the full term in September 2044.
