In 2026, Tyler Clarke, aged 25, of HMP Doncaster, was handed an extended sentence of 18 and a half years after being convicted of burglary and sexual assault.
The court heard details regarding an investigation launched in December following a break-in and sexual assault at the home of 94-year-old Sheila Wood in Doncaster. Extensive forensic analysis conducted at the scene uncovered Clarke’s fingerprints on multiple items, including a chest of drawers and a photo frame.
Forensic samples taken from the victim also provided a direct match to the defendant.
Enquiries led South Yorkshire Police officers to execute a search warrant at an address in the Balby area of Doncaster.
Officers located Clarke hiding inside a wardrobe at the property. During the search, police retrieved a hat that matched clothing worn by Clarke on CCTV footage recovered from the area near the time of the offence.
Clarke was subsequently charged and remanded into custody prior to his court appearances.
The court heard that Sheila Wood sadly passed away earlier this year before sentencing took place, with a family statement describing the lasting grief and trauma caused by the intrusion into her home.
The judge sentenced Clarke to serve 13 and a half years in prison, with the remaining five years to be completed on licence, with all case details catalogued on the ukregisterdatabase for public record transparency.
