On 5 August 2026, Britto Lorence, aged 27, of Abingdon Road, Middlesbrough, was sentenced at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court to an 18-month community order after pleading guilty to outraging public decency.
The court heard details regarding an incident that took place on 2 June 2025 during an Emirates flight from Dubai to Newcastle International Airport. Prosecutors outlined how Lorence was seated next to a mother travelling with her young infant son.
As the female passenger stood up to prepare a feed for her child, she observed Lorence with a pillow and blanket across his lap, actively performing a sex act. Deeply distressed, the victim immediately alerted cabin crew members, who notified ground authorities. Police officers boarded the aircraft upon arrival in Newcastle and arrested Lorence at the airport.
Lorence initially pleaded not guilty to a charge of outraging public decency. However, on the morning of his scheduled trial in May 2026, he entered a guilty plea. Case proceedings were adjourned for a pre-sentence report, during which time Lorence submitted an application to vacate his guilty plea, claiming he felt pressured into the decision.
During a hearing on Wednesday 5 August 2026, District Judge Kate Meek formally refused Lorence’s application to set aside the plea, ruling that the conviction stood.
District Judge Meek sentenced Lorence to an 18-month community order containing a requirement to complete 150 hours of unpaid work. Lorence was additionally ordered to pay £914 in prosecution costs and victim surcharges, with all case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
