Four members of an organised human trafficking syndicate responsible for trafficking 24 Thai women into the UK and forcing them into commercial sexual exploitation have been sentenced to a collective total of 23 years’ imprisonment at Woolwich Crown Court.
The operation was dismantled following an investigation led by the Metropolitan Police’s Modern Slavery and Child Exploitation Team.
The inquiry commenced in 2025 after officers conducted proactive welfare visits at commercial brothels connected to an associated operation.
During interviews, multiple Thai nationals disclosed that their passports and identity documents had been confiscated upon arrival by a female controller known as “Freya” or “Freya Ice Queen”.
Intelligence and forensic tracking linked the alias to 49-year-old Achareeya Spurr, revealing an organised infrastructure operating multiple brothels across London and Kent where women were controlled for commercial sexual gain.
Achareeya Spurr, aged 49, of Saint David’s Square, E14, entered guilty pleas to:
- Conspiracy to commit human trafficking
- Conspiracy to control prostitution for gain
- Acquiring, using, or possessing criminal property
Three co-defendants contested the allegations but were convicted following a seven-week Crown Court trial of conspiracy to commit human trafficking, conspiracy to control prostitution for gain, acquiring, using, or possessing criminal property, and facilitating a breach of UK immigration law by a non-UK national:
- Chin Ping, aged 56, of Saint David’s Square, E14
- Sarunyoo Siriwan, aged 31, of Seagar Place, SE8
- Ugur Sahin, aged 27, of Victoria Road, NW4
- On Friday, 18 September, the defendants were sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court:
- Achareeya Spurr was sentenced to seven years and eight months’ imprisonment (92 months).
- Chin Ping was sentenced to six years and nine months’ imprisonment (81 months).
- Sarunyoo Siriwan was sentenced to four years and four months’ imprisonment (52 months).
- Ugur Sahin was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment (48 months).
The court also made all four defendants subject to strict Slavery and Trafficking Prevention Orders (STPOs) to restrict their travel, financial arrangements, and communications following release.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing standard determinate sentences under seven years, Chin Ping, Sarunyoo Siriwan, and Ugur Sahin are entitled to statutory release on licence at the halfway mark of their terms, serving approximately 40.5 months, 26 months, and 24 months in custody respectively. Because Achareeya Spurr was handed a custodial sentence of seven years or more for serious sexual and trafficking offences, she is subject to the two-thirds custody provision, requiring her to serve five years and one month (61 months) in prison custody before becoming eligible for release on licence under probation supervision.
