Steven Coulson, aged 32, of Newton Close, Cottenham, South Cambridgeshire, has been sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison at Cambridge Crown Court for severe personal attacks on a teenage girl.
The court heard that in the early hours of 8 January 2024, Coulson got into bed with the victim in Cambridge and began touching her. Despite the victim asking him to stop and attempting to get out of bed, Coulson pulled her back and subjected her to a violent assault.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary officers launched an investigation after the incident was reported. Coulson subsequently handed himself in at Parkside Police Station on 10 January 2024, where he denied the offences during police interviews.
Detectives compiled testimonial and physical evidence to present a complete case to the Crown Prosecution Service. Following a crown court trial, Coulson was found guilty of rape and assault of a female 13 and over by penetration.
On Thursday 6 August 2026, the presiding judge sentenced Coulson to nine years and nine months’ imprisonment. Coulson was also issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, an indefinite restraining order, and placed on the sex offenders register for life, with all case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
