A Northampton Rapist, Simon Turay, who sexually assaulted and raped a woman while restraining her and harassed another woman has received an extended sentence of 15 years.

On May 25 of the previous year, Northamptonshire Police were informed by a lady who reported that four days prior, in Northampton, a man she recognised compelled her to accompany him to a cellar on Queens Road, where he forcibly removed her clothing and sexually assaulted her orally.

The woman additionally stated that the man had robbed her in April.

The Force’s specialised rape investigation unit, SOLAR, initiated an inquiry, identifying Simon Turay, 47, as the suspect.

He was apprehended on May 26 at the residence of a former partner, from whom he was prohibited from contacting or approaching according to a restraining order issued in June 2023.

Simon Turay was then charged with rape, kidnapping, and robbery concerning the first woman, as well as two counts of harassment and one act of common assault with the second woman.

As the rape case advanced towards trial, on October 9, 2024, Simon Turay once more violated the restraining order by contacting the second lady and attempting to dictate her testimony in court.

This resulted in a third accusation of harassment and an additional count of attempting to obstruct justice.

Simon Turay, without a permanent residence, acknowledged the charges of harassment, assault, and perverting the course of justice, nevertheless proceeded to trial for the counts of rape, kidnapping, and robbery.

On May 21 of this year, Simon Turay was convicted of all three charges at Northampton Crown Court.

On Thursday, July 31, Simon Turay received an extended sentence of 15 years for the crime of rape upon returning to the same court.

Designated for offenders guilty of particular crimes considered hazardous, Simon Turay’s prolonged sentence includes 11 years of incarceration followed by an additional four years under supervision.

He was sentenced to one year of imprisonment for kidnapping, and 30 months each for robbery and perverting the course of justice, both to be served consecutively.

A further accusation of providing a false statement, which Simon Turay contested, was dismissed.

Simon Turay was issued an indefinite restraining order prohibiting any communication with the rape survivor and barring him from visiting Northampton town centre, along with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order to prevent future offences.
