On November 5, 2021, Richard Scaife was apprehended by armed police on Tontine Street while attempting to escape the scene.

Richard Scaife faced two charges: rape and possession of an imitation handgun during the commission of a crime, after an inquiry conducted by officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

The 46-year-old resident of Camden Crescent, Dover, Richard Scaife, was convicted of all three crimes after a trial at Canterbury Crown Court and was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Friday, 29 July 2022.

Authorities discovered the replica firearm in Richard Scaife’s vehicle after his apprehension.

Richard Scaife had scheduled a meeting with the woman, who was employed as a sex worker, but upon arriving at the flat, he seized her by the throat and informed her that he possessed a knife.

He subsequently assaulted the victim before retrieving a firearm from his jacket and securing the door.

He sexually assaulted the woman a second time before she persuaded him to vacate the premises.

She contacted the police, who arrived at the site and apprehended Richard Scaife as he departed.

A compact folding knife, a bayonet, and a replica weapon were discovered in Richard Scaife’s vehicle, while strips of duct tape were affixed to the interior of his jacket.
