In November 2022, Raymond Monks, aged 78, of Greens Lane, Rossendale, was sentenced to six years in prison following his conviction for non-recent child sexual offences committed in West Cumbria.
The court heard details regarding an investigation conducted by Cumbria Constabulary into offences committed against a young boy in the village of Rowrah between July 2006 and July 2008. Prosecutors outlined how Monks subjected the victim to sexual abuse and forced him to view sexually explicit material over a two-year period.
Monks was the second defendant brought to justice in relation to the investigation. In July 2022, co-defendant Andrew Fairley, aged 58, of Musselburgh, East Lothian, was sentenced to eight years in prison for his role in the offending.
Monks was convicted of engaging in sexual activity with a child and causing a child to look at an image of sexual activity.
