This is the disgusting beast, Paula Blackwood, who is currently under investigation for animal maltreatment after she tied her American Akita to a lamppost and abandoned it on the hottest day of the year. Subsequently, she departed for a vacation in Egypt.
On Wednesday, the distressed dog was discovered running around an industrial estate in Salisbury, Wiltshire, after being tied to the lamppost outside PetPractice vets. Wardens raised the alarm as temperatures soared to nearly 35C.
The ‘petrified’ American Akita named Carla escaped from its harness and ran near nearby roads. Ultimately, it was rescued and transported for treatment.
The Akita’s owner is 47-year-old Paula Blackwood, who departed for a sunny break in Egypt shortly after attempting to dispose of her pet.
Ms Blackwood was on social media the day before Carla was discovered, pleading for someone to “immediately” remove Carla from her custody.
She announced on Facebook that Carla was available for adoption to a “good home” due to the separation anxiety that was causing her neighbours to experience distress.
She wrote, “Japanese [sic] Akita to be given to a good home today.” Excellent temperament; extremely affectionate. I am unable to keep her, as she has separation anxiety when I am away, which is causing concern among my neighbours. (Carla is an American Akita.)
She returned to Facebook hours later to enquire about a dog-sitter’s availability.
Ms Blackwood also enquired about transfers to Bournemouth Airport in a distinct online group.
Ms Blackwood now faces the possibility of an animal welfare investigation upon her return, as there are allegations that the female Akita was intentionally abandoned.
