In 2022, the Offender Register reported that when interviewed by police officers regarding the horrific assault, Paul Newcombe, who had violated the trust a woman had placed in him by raping her in her own bed while she was asleep, stated that he “couldn’t help it.”

Paul Newcombe raped his victim while she was sleeping in her residence one night, as he had access to her property. The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, informed the police during the investigation that she had initially slept in the area and hoped the incident was not genuine.

She eventually awoke and enquired about Newcombe’s activities. He promptly dressed and departed from her residence. He was promptly apprehended after his victim reported the incident to the authorities.

During the interview regarding the attack, he informed the officers that she had not consented to having intercourse with him and that he was aware that it was wrong. However, he stated that he was unable to prevent the situation from escalating and that it had become out of control.

Newcombe, who was previously residing on Broadwater Drive in Doncaster, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on November 25 after confessing to rape during an earlier hearing. He was imprisoned for five years and eight months.
