Martyn Hall, aged 48, of Minster-on-Sea, Kent, has been sentenced to 15 years and six months’ imprisonment at Maidstone Crown Court after being convicted of raping two children and possessing indecent images of children while awaiting trial.
The investigation commenced in May 2021 when an initial report of child sexual abuse was submitted to Kent Police. Officers moved quickly, arresting Hall on the same day the complaint was made.
During the subsequent investigation, detectives uncovered evidence that led to the identification of a second child victim. Hall was formally charged with a series of serious sexual offences, including rape and the sexual assault of a child.
Under statutory legislation, both child victims are protected by lifelong anonymity.
While on bail awaiting trial for the rape allegations, Hall was made subject to the strict conditions of an interim Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). Officers from Kent Police carried out routine compliance checks to ensure he was adhering to the court-mandated terms. In August 2025, during an inspection and digital examination of his mobile phone, officers uncovered a collection of indecent images of children, leading to additional criminal charges.
Hall entered not guilty pleas to all counts on the indictment, taking the case to a full Crown Court trial. Following the presentation of evidence, the jury rejected his defence and convicted him on all charges.
On Friday, 25 September 2026, the presiding judge handed Hall an extended determinate sentence:
- A custodial term of 15 years and six months (186 months)
- An extended licence period of one year
- A 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO)
- Indefinite notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register (for life)
Release Calculation: Because Hall received an extended sentence for serious sexual offences, automatic release at the halfway stage does not apply. Hall is required to serve at least two-thirds of his 15-and-a-half-year custodial term (a minimum of 10 years and four months) in prison before becoming eligible to apply to the Parole Board for consideration of release on licence. If directed for release, he will remain under active Probation Service supervision for the remainder of the custodial term plus the additional one-year licence extension.
