In 2022, Mario Sztojka, the Huddersfield Rapist and Sex Offender, was convicted of raping a woman in a town centre street and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Mario Sztojka, aged 26, assaulted his victim on Lower Viaduct Street in Huddersfield during the early hours of 26 May 2021.
He was designated as a suspect days following the incident, and a significant operation to apprehend him culminated in his arrest in December.
The police characterised him as a “dangerous and predatory sex offender” who “took every measure to evade justice”.
Mario Sztojka, residing on Meltham Road in Huddersfield, was convicted of two charges of rape after a trial at Leeds Crown Court.
Mario Sztojka received an 18-year prison sentence and is required to serve a minimum of 12 years incarcerated.
Detective Chief Inspector Marc Bowes of West Yorkshire Police stated: “He endeavoured to elude justice for the grave sexual assault he perpetrated against his victim and was apprehended due to relentless, systematic police efforts that ultimately enabled us to track him down.”
“Notwithstanding compelling evidence to the contrary, Mario Sztojka opted to subject his victim to the rigours of a trial, which has been mirrored in the sentence rendered against him.”
