Marcelino Goncalves, a 55-year-old rapist from Acton, was apprehended and sentenced after being identified as a high-risk criminal and habitual abuser.
On Friday, March 22, Marcelino Goncalves was convicted of rape, assault by beating, assault occasioning serious bodily harm, stalking, and controlling coercive behaviour.
Marcelino Goncalves attracted police notice when a member of the public witnessed him assaulting a woman with whom he was acquainted. The woman subsequently revealed her extensive history of abuse, which included threats at her residence, being burned with a cigarette for refusing sexual advances, and being punched in the face.
Marcelino Goncalves persisted in his harassment while in custody, making 15 calls from prison; however, with improved oversight within the correctional facility, the harassment was curtailed upon reporting.
