In 2024, after being classified as a high-risk criminal and habitual abuser, Marcelino Goncalves, a 55-year-old Acton rapist, was captured and convicted.

He was found guilty of rape, assault by beating, assault causing serious bodily harm, stalking, and controlling coercive behaviour on Friday, March 22.

When a member of the public saw Marcelino Goncalves abusing a woman, he knew that the police took note. The woman later disclosed her long history of abuse, which included being struck in the face, being burned with a cigarette for turning down sexual approaches, and receiving threats at her home.

Marcelino Goncalves continued to harass people while he was in custody, making 15 calls from prison. However, after reporting the harassment, the correctional facility’s control increased.
