In 2021, Lucas Wilson, a then 19-year-old man from St Blazey, was sentenced following a police undercover investigation into the administration of illegal online chatrooms and child exploitation networks.
Lucas Wilson, of Landreath Place, St Blazey, was sentenced at Truro Crown Court after pleading guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children and three counts of distributing prohibited media. The court heard that an undercover operative infiltrated encrypted chat groups on the Kik messenger platform, where Wilson served as an administrator across multiple digital forums containing hundreds of members. During these online communications, Wilson expressed an explicit desire to abuse children known to him and requested illicit photographs from other users.
Prosecutors detailed how Wilson distributed links to online cloud storage folders containing prohibited images and videos involving child abuse. Law enforcement officers subsequently executed a search warrant at his home address and seized electronic devices containing hundreds of illicit files. Defence counsel highlighted his age and personal circumstances at the time of the offence. Taking these factors into account, the court handed Wilson a 36-month community order requiring completion of a rehabilitation activity requirement.
In addition to his community sentence, Wilson was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
He was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to ensure strict ongoing monitoring of his digital communications, internet access, and public safety risks.
