In 2026, the Offender Register reported that Liam Hall, who sexually assaulted a woman, attempted to obstruct the investigation into his offence from within prison.
In June of the previous year, Liam Hall was remanded to HMP Preston after being accused of assaulting the woman in Bacup.
Police officers conducted additional interviews with him regarding sexual offences committed against the same victim while he was on remand.
Hall contacted his mother, Amanda Hall, via prison phone within thirty minutes of being interviewed.
He advised her of the information presented to him during the interview and instructed her to consult the witnesses involved in the case.
Hall encouraged Amanda Hall to persuade the witnesses to withdraw their statements during their subsequent phone calls over the following days.
Amanda Hall also advised her son to “lie his back out on the stand; the court will never prove you are lying.”
Phone conversations were discovered that she had made with two witnesses.
Additionally, investigations revealed that Liam Hall sent the victim numerous emails on a prisoner service email account, urging her to dismiss the charges.
Amanda Hall, 53, of Peel Lane, Heywood, and Liam Hall, 29, of no fixed address, appeared at Preston Crown Court for their sentencing today (10th July).
After a May trial, both individuals were convicted of conspiracy to subvert the course of justice by a jury.
Additionally, Liam Hall was convicted of perverting the course of justice, assault causing actual bodily injury, and sexual assault by penetration.
He was sentenced to five years in prison, placed on the sex offenders register, and subjected to a restraining order for a period of ten years with respect to his victim.
Amanda Hall was sentenced to nine months in prison, with the sentence suspended for 18 months. Additionally, she was required to perform 140 hours of community service. So absolutely no reason for her to rethink her behaviour.
