A 25-year-old Bristol man described by detectives as a manipulative and dangerous offender has received an immediate custodial sentence of six years and three months at Bristol Crown Court after admitting to the rape of a 15-year-old girl and physical violence against an adult woman.

Lewis Scott, residing at Hallards Close, Bristol, appeared in the dock for sentence having entered guilty pleas across an indictment detailing serious sexual offences against a child alongside violent conduct and court order breaches.

The prosecution outlined that Scott initially established contact with the female complainant via an online social networking platform in 2010. At the time of the initial online approach, the victim was 14 years old and living in Somerset, while Scott was 19.

Scott exploited the child’s age and vulnerability, escalating the contact into serious sexual offences that culminated in him raping the girl when she was 15 years old. The victim made formal disclosures to Avon and Somerset Police four years later, prompting detectives to launch a comprehensive inquiry.

The court was also told that Scott engaged in further violent behaviour in August 2014, targeting a 21-year-old woman in Bristol. During that incident, Scott carried out a physical attack resulting in actual bodily harm and acted in direct violation of an existing restraining order previously imposed by the court to prohibit contact.

At Bristol Crown Court, Scott formally pleaded guilty to:

One count of rape of a child

Two counts of sexual activity with a child

One count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)

One count of assault

One count of breach of a restraining order

Investigating officer PC Richard Grierson, of Avon and Somerset Police, stated following the hearing:
“The pattern of behaviour demonstrated by Lewis Scott show him to be a manipulative and dangerous offender and I believe our communities are safer now he is behind bars. He took advantage of her young age and naivety to commit some truly horrible crimes. We believe there may be more victims out there, so I would encourage anyone who has been affected by this case to come forward.”

Under the provisions of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992, the child victim is protected by mandatory, lifelong statutory anonymity. Any publication, broadcast, or public dissemination of information capable of leading to her identification is strictly prohibited under UK law.

Sentencing Scott, the presiding judge ordered him to serve an immediate prison term of six years and three months.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered that Scott remain subject to statutory notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period, alongside restraining order provisions.
