In 2021, the Offender Register confirmed that just seconds after being sentenced, a pervert pensioner who sexually assaulted an adolescent girl had slashed his neck in the dock.

In court, Leslie Marrs, THEN 76, employed a craft blade to inflict a wound on the right side of his neck.

The correctional officer was cautioned by Judge Stuart Driver, QC, regarding the pensioner, who had previously informed probation that he intended to commit suicide before he arrived at prison. Subsequently, the incident occurred.
The judge further stated, “He requires special attention.”

Immediately thereafter, Marrs extracted the weapon from his suit and twice slashed his neck.

The dock officer subsequently removed the weapon and requested an assistant for the defendant.

At the same time, the majority of individuals who were present in the court were requested to vacate.

Security personnel arrived to provide first aid, and paramedics and an ambulance were dispatched to Liverpool Crown Court to attend to him in the cells.

After pleading guilty to sexual assault, Marrs, of Dunkeld Close, Kensington, Liverpool, was recently sentenced to 32 months in prison and compelled to sign the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life.

Anya Horwood, the prosecutor, informed the court that the victim, who was in her mid-teens, disclosed to her youth worker that she had been sexually assaulted by Marrs several months prior, and that Marrs had also made inappropriate comments.

Marrs stated during the interview that they had been discussing pubic hair and “in that context touched her vaginal area.”

A photograph of his penis was discovered on his mobile phone. He acknowledged that the vulnerable girl may have seen it, but he had not shown it to her.

In an impact statement, the victim’s mother disclosed that the girl had demonstrated out-of-character challenging behaviour, endured nightmares, and self-harmed after the assault.

She stated that she had now come to the realisation that Marrs had been grooming her daughter, stating, “I am convinced that he was fully aware of his actions.”

The judge imposed a sentence on Marrs, stating that the former soldier had inflicted “substantial psychological harm” on his victim. He also praised the victim’s mother’s emotionally charged statement.

The court was temporarily closed following Marr’s neck injury to facilitate a comprehensive cleaning.

Marrs was transported to a hospital for treatment, and no officers were injured during the incident.
