In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Kyril John Lewis McClean, then 27, of Malton, North Yorkshire, was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing at York Crown Court. McClean, a “vile” and “vicious” repeat offender, was convicted of having sex with a girl on at least three occasions while she was still 15. The investigation by North Yorkshire Police revealed that the “horrific” acts took place in an alleyway next to a cinema, in a tent, and in a car parked in a garage.
The court heard horrendous details of McClean’s “depraved” behaviour, including the fact that he “viciously” ignored an official police warning to stay away from the victim while she was 15. Although McClean “callously” claimed he had waited until her sixteenth birthday, a jury found him guilty of the “serious” sexual offences. The prosecution emphasised that McClean also faced allegations of raping a 13-year-old girl in his Malton flat—where he reportedly tied a rope to the door to prevent access—though the jury acquitted him of the charges involving the younger girl.
During the proceedings, Judge Andrew Stubbs QC reported that McClean had also admitted to a “vile” and “serious” offence involving sending “horrendous abuse and threats” to his own grandmother. The court emphasised that McClean had a “vicious” and long criminal record littered with convictions for arson, making explosives, burglary, drug offences, and battery. He was already on the Sex Offenders Register at the time of these latest crimes, having served previous prison sentences for “depraved” acts of indecent exposure.
As a result of his convictions for sexual activity with a child and harassment, Kyril John Lewis McClean was remanded in custody for a “serious” assessment of how dangerous he is to the public. He remains on the Sex Offenders Register for life and is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by North Yorkshire Police. This ensures his “vicious” behaviour in Malton and the wider Yorkshire area is strictly monitored. Any further “vile” actions or breaches of his conditions will result in his immediate arrest and return to prison.
Kyril John Lewis McClean was sentenced to 8 years in prison.
