A man has received an immediate custodial sentence of eight years at the High Court in Edinburgh after being convicted of raping a woman in her bed after entering her residential property with a spare key.
Kabiru Jack Buraimoh appeared in the dock on Wednesday 4 November 2026 to be sentenced following the conclusion of a High Court trial.
The court heard that the incident occurred on 12 May 2024 at a residential address situated in the north of Edinburgh. Buraimoh obtained a spare key to gain entry into the victim’s home uninvited. Once inside, he entered the bedroom and carried out the rape while the woman was in her bed.
Police Scotland was alerted to the attack, deploying officers who arrested Buraimoh later that same day before charging him in connection with the assault.
Buraimoh denied the charge, but the jury rejected his defence, returning a guilty verdict on:
One count of rape
Detective Sergeant Louise Forsyth, of Police Scotland, stated following the sentencing:
“Buraimoh carried out a horrific attack on the victim who has understandably been left traumatised by the event. I’d like to thank her for her support as we conducted our investigation. Violence against women and girls is a national emergency and one which we are working with partners to address. We’d encourage anyone who is a victim of sexual crime to come forward and report instances to us. Support is available and perpetrators will be brought to justice.”
Under UK reporting provisions and judicial practice, the survivor in this case is protected by lifelong statutory anonymity. Any publication, broadcast, or public dissemination of information capable of leading to her identification is strictly prohibited under law.
Sentencing Buraimoh at the High Court in Edinburgh, the judge condemned the violation of the woman’s home and the severity of the attack, ordering him to serve an immediate prison sentence of eight years.
In addition to the custodial term, Buraimoh was made subject to indefinite notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register.
