In 2021, a pensioner, John Gillis, was sentenced to 23 years in prison for subjecting a child to a campaign of abuse that resulted in lifelong scarring.
John Gillis, who was then 81 years old, was under the impression that he had escaped the heinous maltreatment he had committed many years prior.
Nevertheless, the pensioner has been apprehended and is now expected to die in prison after being informed that he must serve two-thirds of the 23-year sentence.
Jack Gillis, also known as “Jack,” was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court. His victim stated that he will be required to endure the stigma of being a paedophile “for the remainder of your sad existence.”
The woman, who was seven years old at the time, stated, “He was like a beast on the prowl, and I was his prey.”
I have attempted suicide on numerous occasions due to my conviction that I was unable to endure the shame of his actions. I felt worthless.
She further stated, “Jack, you were convinced that you were invincible due to your arrogance, which has been proven incorrect, and justice has been served.”
“You are obligated to bear the paedophile label for the duration of your life.” “May you endure a life of misery in prison.”
After a May trial, Gillis, of Plessey Road, Blyth, Northumberland, was found guilty of six counts of rape, three of which occurred when the victim was under the age of 13, and two of indecent assault.
Judge Tim Gittins informed him, “You vilely abused her, raping her repeatedly despite the obvious distress and pain you knew you were causing her.”
The court was informed that the victim was dismissed and denounced as a liar when she attempted to inform Gillis’ mother of his actions at the age of 15.
Judge Gittins stated that Gillis exerted every effort to create the impression that she was fabricating the information.
He further stated, “You dismissed her complaint with arrogance and, quite frankly, disregarded her as a human being.”
“There has been no repentance or shame on your part.”
“Despite being surrounded during cross-examination, you continued to assert that she was betraying you, informing the court that she was leaking information.”
The victim’s courage has enabled the truth to be revealed, according to Judge Gittins.
He further stated, “You were a serial rapist and paedophile to her, and she is a survivor, but at an almost catastrophic cost to nearly every aspect of her life.”
Gillis will be indefinitely listed on the sex offenders register in addition to serving a prison sentence.
