James Brown Derby Child Killer

Back in 2019, a Derby Child Killer, James Brown, condemned to four years following the death of a four-month-old infant left in his custody, was residing in Derby and was active on Facebook under an alias.

James Brown enveloped Layla Rix-Palmer’s face and body with a blanket while he was ostensibly responsible for her care.

She ceased respiration, and paramedics were unable to resuscitate her.

He had previously dropped the infant or permitted her to fall and extracted her from the cot by one arm.

During his supervision, the infant incurred an injury from falling off a bed, resulting in a bruise on her head. On another occasion, he acknowledged dropping her, causing her to strike her head against a coffee table.

James Brown reportedly confessed to lancing blisters on the infant’s head, which he attributed to an adverse response to her pillow.

James Brown downplayed his participation during the police interrogation, asserting that he had been employed at a children’s daycare, despite having a caution for common assault in a domestic context.

In 2014, James Brown evaded a manslaughter charge and was subsequently convicted of child abuse offences, receiving a four-year sentence, of which he served just two. He was active on Facebook under the alias ‘Doc Stairway’ and owned the Stairway 11 Hair Studio in Derby.
