Haji Hussain Mohammed, then aged 52, formerly of Heronswood Road, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment at St Albans Crown Court on Friday, 4 September 2026, after being found guilty of nine historical child sexual offences.
The sentence represents the maximum statutory term available under the legislation applicable at the time the offences took place.
The conviction follows an extensive reinvestigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Non-Recent Child Abuse Investigation Team into a sustained campaign of abuse committed between 1994 and 2003 against a female victim who was under the age of 13 throughout the period.
The offences were initially reported to police in 2003, but the Crown Prosecution Service determined at the time to take no further action.
Following a comprehensive CPS case review initiated in 2023, the file was formally reopened, allowing specialist detectives to conduct detailed inquiries that resulted in Mohammed being charged in early 2025.
During the trial, the victim delivered a victim personal statement describing how the trauma had affected every aspect of her life, including her education, health, and identity.
A jury found Mohammed guilty of:
- Six counts of indecent assault
- Three counts of indecency
He was acquitted of a single count of indecent assault.
Detective Constable Gemma Lobacz praised the survivor’s resilience, confirming that police remain dedicated to pursuing offenders regardless of how many decades have passed since the crimes occurred.
The presiding judge handed down a sentence of ten years’ imprisonment (120 months) alongside an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing sexual offences, Mohammed is required to serve two-thirds (80 months / 6 years and 8 months) of his 120-month sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible for statutory release on licence. His projected release date falls in May 2033, whereupon he will remain subject to licence conditions and statutory community supervision until the expiration of the full term in September 2036.
